Stars :Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly
I sometimes feel why do I watch Will Ferrell's movies?Should I be feeling guilty of promoting idocracy or should I feel better for watching a movie with absolute no sense because there are a lot of things to worry about.
The plot as always with Will's movies is absolute no sense.Brennan Huff (Ferrell) a 39 year old and 40-year-old Dale Doback (Reilly)are both unemployed and live with their single parents.Nancy (Mary Steenburgen) Brennan's Mom and Robert (Richard Jenkins) Dale's father ,meet up at a conference and fell in love. They decide to get married and Nancy moves in with Robert with Brenann.Brenann and Dale both almost same age physically and mentally find each others company intimidating. But due to common hatred towards Brenann's younger brother Derek (Adam Scott) who is shown as a complete jerk to Brenann,Brenann and Dale become best buddies.Their irresponsible and stupid acts force their parents to decide for a divorce.Brenann and Dale hold each other responsible and to prove to each other they start looking for jobs and turn into successful entrepreneurs.
Both the leads of the movie look awfully stupid in their characters and probably that is what works for the movie. Will Ferrell is always good at playing such absent minded characters and he does the same in quite the same fashion as his previous works. Will in past few years has taken center stage in almost every nonsense movie and to amazement most of them work. Reilly has been doing the same for the past few years. The previous effort of these two stars together "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby " was slightly better than this one.The supporting cast had nothing much to do but they do a decent enough job to not to make the movie look bad.I specially appreciate Mary Steenburgen for playing Nancy ,she comes out good.
The direction of the movie by Adam Mckay comes out good. Its always difficult to make people laugh and what Adam does was not able to make me laugh but yeah it did leave a smile. The story is also written by Will Ferrell and Adam Mckay and they have come up with some funny situations in the movie.Dialogues are as usual nothing new for a Will Ferrell movie.
Watching Will Ferrell always leaves a doubt in my mind , is the era of good comedy over or this is something that going to change the way we looked at comedy movies.
