Stars : Meryl Streep, Amy Adams,Stanley Tucci, Chris Messina .
Director : Nora Ephron.
There are few rare movies which fill you up with a feeling of joy, its hard to describe why you feel that way but you do.You are all smiling top to bottom outside and within ,"Julie & Julia " is one of those rare kinds and I was all smiles when the movie ended.
The movie revolves around the life of two fantastic women Julie Powell and Julia Child living in two different era's and on the opposite sides of Atlantic .Julie Powell works at the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation's call center answering the calls from the victims of 9/11.Julia Child is a delightful lady who lived for a while in France with her husband during the 1950's.Julie is frustrated and gets more so when one of her friends becomes a writer. When she tells this to her husband Eric , he suggests her to write a blog .So she embarks on a herculean task of trying each recipe in Julia Child's cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking in a year and sets up a blog "The Julie/Julia Project" to keep a record.Woven within Julie's journey through the 524 recipe's of Julia's book is the story of Julia Child and her journey to becoming a Master Chef and published author.
Julie & Julia is an outstanding movie with brilliant performances from the leading ladies and the supporting cast.Meryl Streep as Julia Child is absolutely dazzling and just lights up the screen with her performance. She is so cute and lovable that I couldn't keep my self away from developing an instant liking for the character.Meryl Streep just goes deep in the skin of her character and brings out the flamboyant and fearless mannerism of Julia Child which made her so popular.Meryl's adoption of accent is brilliant too though I haven't heard Julia ,I am sure the accent must been the same.Amy Adams as Julie Powell is exceptional too.Her character is adorable and you sometimes feel sorry for the poor lady .Amy brings out the struggle, frustration, love and joy of her character quite well on the screen. Stanley Tucci and Chris Messina are good in their supporting roles. The soft moments between Tucci and Meryl are really beautiful. The same goes for the other couple of Chris and Amy too.The guys have played the characters of highly supporting husbands really well.I guess if the guys were this supporting in real life too than the ladies were actually lucky.
The script is quite well written and the screenplay is the highlight. The contrast and similarity between the characters of Julie and Julia is beautifully brought out in the movie. The movie has some really funny moments especially with Julia's character in the frame.I liked the direction a lot coz with a beautiful setting like Paris the director didn't fell for the beauty of the city but kept it simple and stuck to telling the story of Julia. The only thing which wasn't actually lacking but I wanted was more of Julia Child and Meryl Streep.
Its a delightful movie which really leaves you refreshed and hungry.
Plus :Mery Streep and Amy Adams performance, a delightful script.
Minus :Couldn't figure out.
