Hangovers sometimes last more than they should and may ruin your next planned day or evening entirely. The Hangover 2 kinda does the same. The Hangover was a delightful fun nicely paced experience, while The Hangover 2 goes down as the extended Hangover that crumbles down under the pressure of expectations.
The wolf pack is back in action and this time its Thailand. Stu is getting married and learning from Doug's bachelor party decides not to organize one this time and even goes to the extend of not inviting the very notorious Alan but later on he does. This time guys decide to just cool it off with beer and bonfire by the sea. The next thing they know, the gang without Doug and with Teddy, Stu's brother- n-law and Chow wakes up in shoddy Bangkok room. This time, they wake up with few more shocks, Alan's head is shaved, Stu has a tattoo on his face , Chow is naked and a new member "monkey"joins them. Five minutes into all the screaming and shocking realisations they discover Teddy is missing as well. Next begins the mayhem as they try tracing their night and Teddy.
The Hangover 2 kinda lacks a lot if we compare to its prequel. In an attempt to make this one more funky and wild ,the writers try to put in more characters, more wild acts and even try exploiting the cramped locations. But too much ingredients sometimes do not lead to a better product. The predecessor was wild but still had a charm and likability to it. This though lacks the charm and simplicity which made The Hangover so much fun. Its not all lost in the sequel though, Chow with a better and longer role provides some funk to the movie and Alan does provides a few moments of charm.
Todd Phillips did great with The Hangover but may be this time around gets a bit carried away and with a lots of expectation just falls short. The dialogues too fail to help an already weak script. The locations could have added some points in its favour but were under utilized. The only saving grace and the fun part as in the first one were the clicks that were shown with the end credits.
I may be getting too carried away by comparing The Hangover2 with its prequel and just getting to negative but its just that I had so much expectations from this one. For me Zack Galifianakis and Ken Jeong were the two decent performers and yes there is one act involving Stu which is really funny. A car chase, when the gang tries to steal back the monkey is fun to watch as well. The Hangover 2 is not bad but its just that its not as good as I wanted and expected it to be. It can be a bit fun with a few friends and some hangover.
Plus : ZackGalifianakis, Ken Jeong and sporadic moments of laughter.
